How it works

A wallet for every currency you need.

Monk Pay is a multi-currency wallet with a simple idea: you should know the price before you press the button, and the price should be the whole price.

  1. Create your account

    Sign up on the web or in the mobile app. We email you a six-digit code to confirm your address.

  2. Verify your identity

    Scan a government ID and take a quick selfie with our verification partner. You do this once, and it is what lets you send and withdraw.

  3. Add money

    Pay by card (handled by Stripe) or with mobile money in supported countries. The balance appears when the payment is confirmed.

  4. Send, or convert

    Find a recipient by username or phone number. Type an amount. The review screen shows the mid-market rate, our margin, our fee, and what they will receive.

  5. Cash out when you want to

    Withdraw to a bank account or to mobile money. The fee for cashing out is shown before you confirm.

We could say "instant" and leave it there. Here is the honest version.

  • Between Monk Pay wallets: recorded instantly.
  • Adding money: depends on the method. Card payments and mobile-money approvals are confirmed by the payment provider, usually quickly.
  • Cashing out: depends on the bank or mobile-money operator. We show the status of every payment in the app, and we do not promise a time we do not control.
